Butterfly Bungalow in the Hocking Hills

I mentioned the Hocking Hills area of Ohio on my HoneyRoom homepage and now I remember why! This area is incredibly beautiful and our featured HoneyRoom today makes me want to hop in the car with my Beloved Jeffie and GO! ...

Getaway Cabins
26366 Chapel Ridge Rd.
S. Bloomingville, Ohio

Their whole website just gives me those *warm fuzzies* and has such a romantic appeal, not to mention all the great information they provide visitors (including lots and lots of pictures!) Jennifer and Michael Mitchell started Getaways Cabins about 10 years ago with just one cabin and now have 20 available for your rental pleasure.

I picked the Butterfly Bungalow (#4) to showcase here... as with all of their modern rustic-style log cabins, this bungalow offers all the comforts of home with full amenities including an electric fireplace, queen-size bed, TV & VCR, DVD player, ceiling fan, gas grill, air conditioning, towels & linens, a standard kitchen, sofa and a hot tub! :) Rates for this little cabin start at just $89.00/night (that's during the winter which the Mitchells state is actually the best time to enjoy the hot tub!) up to $169.00/night during peak seasons. FYI... while reading guests' glowing comments of Getaway Cabins, it seems Hummingbird Haven, cabin #21 (formerly known as the Dragonfly Cabin) is also very popular with the romantics. Rates for this cabin are the same as the Butterfly Bungalow.

You might also want to check out their
Fireside Romance Package, as well as their Special Occasion Packages. MeThinks Getaway Cabins would be the perfect place to indulge and rekindle your love!

Getaway Cabins are open all year round, and for those of you who just cannot leave your beloved pooch at home, they are welcome at some of their pet friendly cabins.

If you should decide to venture outside your cabin, there are
an abundance of recreational and leisure time activities located near the cabin rentals, including hiking, biking, golf, sightseeing, dining and shopping.

And don't forget to
sign up for their mailing list to be automatically entered in their Free Getaway Giveaway!

Getaway Cabins are located approximately 55 miles southeast of Columbus, 127 miles east of Cincinnati and 208 miles southwest of Cleveland.

If you're familiar with the Hocking Hills area of Ohio, I'd LOVE to hear your comments!

Heart-Shaped Jacuzzis Everywhere!

A romantic place for romantic couples (their site states) at foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Georgia. The North Georgia Mountains have always been a favorite destination of mine when surfing for HoneyRooms. There are many wonderful-looking romantic places for lovers here. Today I picked one at random and it's a GOOD one!

Black Forest B&B and Luxury Cabins
8902 North Main St.
Helen, GA

They offer six secluded cabins, and four rooms and three suites in the main house, and from what I saw, it looks like almost ALL of these have red heart-shaped jacuzzis. Now, how romantic is that? :)

Pictured here is their Tropical Honeymoon cabin. You can rent this starting at $225.00 ($275.00 at peak time) per night. Rooms in the main house start at $150.00/night.

On their
concierge services page, you will find additional items available to enhance your stay, such as
roses and chocolate covered strawberries.

They also host outdoor "waterfall weddings" on their cobblestone patio. You can check
this page for packages, which can also include lodging.

"A unique Bavarian cultural experience" is what they say about Helen, Georgia. As you might guess, Oktoberfest is huge here. Other activities in the area include hot air balloon rides (that sounds romantic, doesn't it?), horseback riding, canoeing, kayaking and of course............shopping!

Helen is approximately 85 miles northeast of Atlanta and approximately 120 miles from Greenville, SC.

If you're familiar with the North Mountains area of Georgia, please post your comments!

Georgia here.

Until next time,

HAPPY HONEYROOM HUNTING!

P.S. So much to do, SO little time...sigh... I received an email last week that directed me to a website with a "countdown to Christmas". Did you know it's only 111 days until December 25th? So I need to get busy with my BeMine.com store! Here's another romantic item I plan to feature:

This is hand-painted glassware by Bellissimo! and it's gorgeous! If you have a wedding to go to, you must visit THIS LINK to view the items in their "Hearts of Fire" pattern! Pieces range in price from approximately $12.00 to $66.00.

A Special Place For Lovers

From the very beginning of my web surfing for romantic places, I knew Eureka Springs would always be a special place. From weddings, to proposals, to renewal of vows, and anniversaries, this small town in the Ozark Mountains has it all! With so many wonderful romantic HoneyRooms available, it was difficult picking one to feature... do you feel more will be featured here in the future? :) For today, however, here's...

Hidden Springs B&B and Cottages
23 Hillside Avenue
Eureka Springs, Arkansas

Enjoy country solitude and an uninterrupted view of the Ozarks...yet this romantic spot is located in the Historical District of Eureka Springs and is within walking distance from the heart of downtown where you'll find antique and specialty shops, spas, fine dining and eclectic art studios.

Hidden Springs offers two rooms and two cottages. Pictured here is their Dove Cottage, which you can reserve for $169.00/night. It offers a jacuzzi for two, a romantic fireplace, and lovely views of the surrounding area.

If you're interested in a very private wedding, please visit their Enchanting Private Wedding or Romantic Elopement Package page or here for other specials they offer.

To give you an idea of just how much Eureka Springs has to offer, EurekaSprings.com is a wonderful resource! Here you will find many HoneyRooms, as well as spas, wedding services, restaurants, and much much more.

Eureka Springs is located approximately 180 miles northwest of Little Rock, approximately 64 miles south of Branson, Missouri, and approximately 160 east of Tulsa, Oklahoma.

If you're familiar with the Eureka Springs area, please post your comments!

The Rural Coast of Maine

Today we are going to a "secret place" that has been welcoming guests for 117 years...

Oakland House Seaside Resort
435 Herrick Road
Herricks Landing
Brooksville, Maine

This 50 acre compound is in the heart of the Blue Hill Peninsula on Eggemoggin Reach's shore in Maine. With a half mile of oceanfront property, the resort is able to host romantic beach weddings... and they also offer sunset lobster picnics on the beach every Thursday evening during the season. How much fun does that sound like? :)

The Shore Oaks Seaside Inn at Oakland House offers a ten room bed and breakfast, most with private baths. In addition, there are 15 cottages sprinkled around the property for your renting pleasure.

They state that

Ledges Cottage is loved by couples who want a getaway with privacy, yet with services nearby. This cottage is secluded and ideal for honeymooners, but there are one-bedroom cottages right on the waterfront as well. To view all of these HoneyRooms, you can go here.

These are available on the modified American plan (including breakfast and dinner) on a weekly basis during high season. There are many many variables in rates for the Oakland House, so I'm going to direct you
here to see the what, when and where's of availability.

You can go
here for the same on the Seaside Inn rooms.

This is a seasonal resort that opens in the spring and closes in the late fall, with the exception of the Lone Pine and Boathouse Cottages which are available throughout the winter. Televisions and phones are not available in most rooms/cottages, making the Oakland House a serene and quiet place. You can tell they are very proud of their Rusticator Restaurant, which serves a full five-course dinner (MAP) and generous breakfast buffet during high season. If you're looking for activities, you can find many
here... right on the property!

I see they have
romantic specials running right now for the fall. If this is a "secret place" you're interested in visiting, you'd better hurry and make a reservation now to experience this quaint location on the Maine coast before they close for the season!

The Oakland House Seaside Resort is approximately 50 miles from Bangor Airport.

If you're familiar with the Maine coast, please post your comments!

You can find other HoneyRooms in
Maine here.

Until next time,

HAPPY HONEYROOM HUNTING!

Love, Emmie* :)

Rustic Charm In Arizona

The more I explored this site, the more I fell in love! While Sedona is definitely the "B&B capital" of Arizona, today I chose the...

Red Setter Inn
#8 Main Street
Greer, Arizona

The sheer beauty of the Greer area is enough to take your breath away. Plus the seclusion of this Inn on the banks of the Little Colorado River in the incredibly beautiful White Mountains, makes it an ultimate "secret place" getaway! The Red Setter Inn was ranked #10 in the world by Fodor's for 2006, and I can surely see why! They use words such as tranquil, peaceful, quiet; AND the Inn is adult oriented.

You can choose from nine rooms in the Inn (pictured above is #3 starting at $165.00/night), or one of three suites in their Cottage (shown left is their Penthouse, all alone at the top of the Cottage, starting at $225.00/night).

BUT WAIT! :) In gathering information for this post, I see I almost missed their two PRIVATE cottages! The Elk Run Cottage and Turkey Track Cottage both rent for $275.00/night and have kitchen/dining areas, fireplaces and "jacuzzis for two." Are you packing your bags yet? :)

The Red Setter Inn is located approximately 240 miles from Phoenix and approximately 247 miles from Albuquerque, New Mexico.

If you've visited the Greer area, please share your comments.

You can find other HoneyRooms in
Arizona here.

Until next time,

HAPPY HONEYROOM HUNTING!

The Perfect Romantic Getaway on Kauai

This is a Secret Place I've stayed at many times and absolutely love! If you're looking for a romantic getaway on Kauai's North Shore, which is off the beaten path, please keep reading!

Nakea Home
Anini Beach Road
Anini Beach, Kauai, Hawaii

The first time we vacationed at the Nakea home, I could not believe what a paradise we'd found! This wonderfully comfortable and secluded "secret place" is almost at the end of Anini Beach Road, which is a dirt road off of the main highway. As you can see, you have magnificent sweeping ocean views from the deck, and the long sandy beach is just beyond the front lawn and dirt road...only about 50 feet away.

The beach is one of the safest and most protected along the North Shore of the island. A fringed reef runs the entire length, Hawaii's longest, making the water inside calm. Anini is ideal for snorkeling, as well as swimming, windsurfing and sunbathing.

Ok, ok... I'm sounding like a travel guide and not speaking from my heart!

The Nakea Home on Anini Beach is truly a romantic secret place for lovers!!! I, honestly, cannot think of a more wonderful place to spend time with the one you love! Just imagine...

Sitting on the deck, sipping champagne with your beloved, enjoying a spectacular sunset.

Taking long walks hand-in-hand along the uncrowded beach.

Making love to the sound of the waves from your beachfront boudoir.

Preparing a romantic dinner for two in the privacy of your own secret place.

Building a sandcastle together on the beautiful quiet beach.

Or...

Even an Anini Beach wedding!?!? :) (I liked the Barefoot Kauai Weddings site a lot!)

Should you ever decide to leave the house :), the scenery on the rest of Kauai is breathtaking too, and should definitely be seen from a helicopter, which is something we did several times over the years. In checking Expedia, I see that when you book your flights, you can add a helicopter tour (which leaves from the Princeville Airport which is very close to Anini Beach) to your package for about $200.00/person. This is an activity I highly recommend! Expedia also offers other add-ons, such as dinner cruises for approximately $100.00/person, which sound awfully romantic too!

The Princeville Resort (only a few miles from Anini Beach...but yet a world away with regards to "secret places") also offers helicopter tours, as well as spa services, golfing, tennis, canoeing, kayaking, cruising, sailing, horseback riding and other activities.

I also did some exploring online for restaurants in the area (since it's been awhile for me). But I did find one place we always loved when we were there...
Hanalei Dolphin Restaurant. Ahhh, what wonderful memories I have of this romantic restaurant which is a short drive from Anini Beach! Another one that people have quoted as being "romantic" is the Bali Hai Restaurant at Hanalei Bay Resort... just a few miles up the road from the house. Princeville also has several restaurants, with the Cafe Hanalei looking to be the most romantic with wonderful ocean views.

And here's a page from Fodor's on Kauai. It's a guide to the island, which will give you great information on the area.

Every time we were there, we'd make at least one sunset trip to Ke'e Beach at Ha'ena State Park (approximately 10 miles west of the house), which is where the road ends...period (the west side of Kauai, the majestic Na Pali Coast, is inaccessible by car). We'd pack a picnic dinner and watch the picture-perfect sunsets. In reading reviews on this area, some people said it was overcrowded, but beautiful, nonetheless; however, by going in the evening, you'll find the area much quieter. Here's a picture we took at Ke'e Beach and had framed, which is a constant reminder of just how beautiful those sunsets are! (Sorry...I had to get it on an angle to avoid the lens flare.)

And don't forget those souvenirs you'll need to buy. There are shops at Princeville and at other various locations along the highway from Lihue, including the Coconut Marketplace in Kapa'a (the Fodor's guide above covers shopping). You'll also need to grocery shop for your romantic dinners and picnics. There's a grocery store we always shopped at in
Ching Young Village, which is close to Anini Beach and I've also read that Princeville has added a grocery store since we were there. While these places are expensive, you'll still save by not having to eat out every meal. We loved staying "home" some nights, just relaxing and barbecuing on the deck, as well as fixing a brunch in the morning, while enjoying coffee and the awesome views from our little slice of paradise!

Rates for this wonderful secret place seem to vary from website to website, which I'm sure has to do with the time of the year, length of stay, etc. I've found the Nakea Home listed here...

Hawaiian Beach Rentals for $286.00/night; and here...

Kauai Vacation Rentals starting at $390.00/night or $1,950.00/week; and here...

Anini Aloha ranging from $1,750.00 to $2,250.00/week

The Nakeas have also built a cottage that is located behind the main house, which they also rent. It's smaller and a little less money. While I don't have any personal knowledge of this property, I'm sure it's wonderful too! You can find the listing for the "Nakea Cottage" on the above sites.

If you're looking for something closer to Po'ipu, the bustling area of Kauai, you can find lots of listings on the above websites or below on our Hawaii HoneyRoom page. But I will tell you that once we discovered the North Shore, we had no desire to look elsewhere!

OK... here are a couple of tips for you if you're interested in a tropical vacation home rental. Unless you enjoy the heat, you'll want to find a place that's as close to the ocean as possible, particularly if they don't have air conditioning. That's another reason I love the Nakea Home! It's almost on top of the beach and you'll get cool breezes blowing almost all of the time.

And second (I mentioned this in my review of the Tropical Cottages in the Florida Keys), you will have critters aka no-see-ums :) As you can see from one of the pictures, the home backs up to a lush hill... are you getting the idea? But please do not let this be a deterrent! All it takes is a good repellent or spray (after our first visit we always packed a can of Yard Guard). Don't leave home without it and you'll be just fine! :)

This fantastic Nakea Home is located approximately 28 miles north of the Lihue Airport.

If you've stayed in Kauai, please post your comments about this wonderful Island. Reminiscing here has really made me want to go back!

You can find other HoneyRooms in
Hawaii here.

Until next time,

HAPPY HONEYROOM HUNTING!

Love, Emmie* :)

P.S. While on Anini Beach, you'll definitely want to write love letters in the sand, like Jeffie and I did here in Santa Barbara.

The suite featured here is "Laura's Room", which also includes a fireplace in addition to the two person jacuzzi. Rates for this HoneyRoom start at approximately $240.00/night, and for an additional $76.00 you can add a four course candlelight dinner for two. You can also check
